Hand-harvested from old vines at Pastori, the fruit was fermented in stainless steel for freshness, with a portion of juice removed by saignée to intensify flavor and color. Aging in 40% new American oak barrels and malolactic fermentation further softened acidity and enhanced texture, resulting in a vibrant, balanced wine that is both immediately enjoyable and age-worthy.

  • 2023 CARIGNAN

    2023 CARIGNAN

    SALDO

    2023 CARIGNAN

    $55.00

The 2023 Carignan harvest in Alexander Valley, California, benefited from a cool, wet winter and spring that delayed the growing season, followed by a moderate summer and warm, dry conditions in late summer and early fall. This led to a slightly later-than-usual harvest between late September and mid-October. Sourced from vines over 75 years old, the grapes exhibited excellent concentration, with average to slightly above-average yields and remarkable color, balanced acidity, and depth of flavor thanks to the longer hang time. Winemakers expect the vintage to produce vibrant, structured Carignan with fresh red fruit and herbal notes, making 2023 a promising year for both varietal and blended wines from the region.
