2023 CORRECTIONS NAPA VALLEY SYRAH

2023 CORRECTIONS STAGS LEAP RED WINE

Napa Valley • 2023 Vintage

The Wine
The 2023 vintage commenced 3-4 weeks behind the previous 10 year average due to heavy rainfall and cold temperatures that lasted into April and May. The winter leading into the growing season saw above average rainfall at nearly 40 inches in most areas around Napa Valley. This did lead to some anxiety around a late harvest and potential for early rains, but we saw a long mild summer that lasted long into October. In the end we had amazing flavor development from this longer hang time, as well as beautiful color and phenolics that gave us perfect building blocks to craft perfectly balanced and delicious wines across the board. We are very excited to release all the wines from this amazing Vintage!

The Label:

For the fourth year of Corrections, we are proud to partner with artist and poet Omari Booker. His work is deeply rooted in the belief of "FREEDOM THROUGH ART." For Omari, art is a source of healing, a way to process experience and offer inspiration to others seeking their own sense of freedom.

This year's wine label features Omari's original piece, Black Bird, a work that acknowledges moments of confinement while standing as a powerful symbol of resilience and hope. Inspired by the black bird that visited Omari's window during his time in prison, the piece captures a sense of possibility and the inspiration he drew from glimpses of the world beyond his confinement.

To complement the message of Omari's work, our winemaking team has crafted a harmonious blend that evokes emotion and awakens the palate. Syrah forms the backbone of the blend, expressing flavors of ripe purple fruit accented by lively spice and vibrant blueberry notes.

The Artist:
Omari Booker is a multidisciplinary artist based in Nashville and Los Angeles. He studied mathematics and other traditional disciplines before earning a B.S. in Graphic Design from Tennessee State University, with a focus in studio art. Oil painting is Omari's primary medium, though public art remains a significant part of his creative practice. Storytelling through poetry, prose, and children's books also serves as an important creative outlet. Omari takes a process-oriented approach to artmaking. The philosophy that underpins his work is "FREEDOM THROUGH ART," and he aspires to create work that communicates each individual's unique and intrinsic ability to be free.

About the Wine

TASTING NOTES

Fresh and energetic on entry, the palate is centered on savory blue fruit, framed by warm spice, vanilla, and herbal complexity. A dense core of fruit is balanced by bright acidity and plush, airy tannins, creating a smooth and seamless finish. The Viognier contributes a touch of ripe peach, enhancing freshness. Complete and full of promise, this wine delivers power, balance, and remarkable purity of fruit.

SENSORY PROFILE

Impressive color introduces a layered aromatic profile of vibrant blue fruit, black olive, bay leaf, and cool woodland herbs. Notes of licorice, vanilla bean, cigar box, and briny olive add depth, while candied violet, purple petals, and ripe white peach lend lift and elegance.

The heritage

Redefining the art of the blend

Inspired by the original red blend first made by Italian immigrants who settled in Napa Valley, this expressive wine carries that spirit forward through an unexpected mix of varietals and a distinctly modern point of view.
