Spring Awakening

Spring has sprung! We finally have some break from the rain, with budbreak 2 weeks behind but leafing out quickly.  We have had some nice sunny weather with cool nights and a small threat of frost but so far so good. The cellar team is busy tasting our 2022 wines and assigning our favorite wines to our favorite blends. We are prepping our 2022 whites to bottle and blending our 2021 red blends. We started celebrating Earth Day early with clean up, recycling, and sustainability training and practice. Excitement for the upcoming season is shared amongst the whole team and we are looking forward to you trying these new wines!

2022 Friction Viognier

A gem cannot be polished without Friction.’ Viognier is a difficult grape to grow, in restricted conditions and therefore a difficult wine to make, requiring specific ongoing attention in order to flourish – the resulting wine from the efforts however is a polished gem of a wine. Sourced and hand harvested100% from Rodger’s Vineyard in Oak Knoll, Napa Valley, the 2022 Viognier has notes of yellow peach, while cinnamon and citrus blossom dominate on the nose. On the palate, peach persists with accents of dried pineapple and apricot. The mouthfeel is soft like viognier should be and is balanced with a bright natural acidity. Fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks then is transferred to neutral French barrels to finish maturing.

2021 Headlock Charbono

Our 2021 is 100% Charbono from a single vineyard, Meyer Vineyard, in Calistoga. Charbono makes up less than 1% of the Napa Valley grape production. It’s aged 15 months in 40% New French and Hungarian oak. This Charbono is a hidden gem- hard to find and fun to explore!

2021 Cabernet Sauvignon

Delicious, soft, and juicy—as always. Zinfandel, Syrah, and Petite Sirah drive the softness and ripeness, while the acidity and tannin backbone come from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Our 2021 vintage was exceptional and the display of density and color proves it. Aged 20 months in 30% New French and American oak barrel aged with a balance of 1-2 yr old and neutral.
