2021 Thorn Merlot Napa Valley

90% Merlot from Beckstoffer Carneros Lake vineyard in Carneros – the best Merlot we receive.

10% Syrah from Rodgers Vineyard in Oak Knoll – always makes a reserve program.

Aged in 45% new oak, a mix of French and American and aged for 16 months before bottling.  Notes of ripe black cherry, cola, toasted vanilla, cherry pick, earth, ginger spice, clove, and nutmeg dominate the aromas. On the palate, Soft but opulent with bright acidity and elegant tannins. Flavors of black cherry, marion and olalaberry, and licorice are spiced with ginger, clove, and vanilla.  Pair this with a filet, pizza, or baked eggplant parmesan.

A Bottle Of 2021 The Prisoner Red Blend California Wine On A Gray Background

2022 The Prisoner Red Blend

Our flagship wine.  A blend of Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.  The Zin, Syrah and Petite Sirah provide the ripe, soft portion of the blend.  The Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot support the softness by adding some backbone of acidity and soft tannin.  Although 2022 was a more challenging vintage, the heat of the season made for a soft and smooth wine.

30% new oak with half American and half French oak aged for 10 months in barrel.  On the nose, dried blackberry, dried acai berries, hints of cedar and tobacco leaf are accented by sweet spices of clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg. On the palate, the red blend is dominated by ripe dark red cherry, and black berry coulis along with hints of anise on the finish. The mouthfeel is full bodied and soft but lifted by vibrant acidity beautifully balanced by ripe soft tannins.   Pair this with anything BBQ, Pappardelle with sausage and fennel seed Bolognese, or even a Chicken Mole Tostada

*Fringe Offering Only* 2019 The Prisoner Red Blend - Magnum 1.5L

Enjoy the super special return of the 2019 The Prisoner offered exclusively in our large magnum format. Magnum wines are ideal for larger gatherings, they are aesthetically elegant and impressive for your guests. … and the wine in these bottles mature better, slower and taste consistently better than when matured in standard bottles. 2019 was a slightly delayed harvest but a slightly warmer harvest. An abundance of fruit in the blend. Looking back shows the character and evolution of The Prisoner Red Blend. A wine made to drink now, I say “for the impatient,” does have stamina to age some. The blend is very similar to the 2022. Same components with slightly different ratios to maintain consistency. There will be some bottle aging characteristics, a little more vanilla from the barrels, dried fruit, and soft tannins. Enjoy this wine with short ribs, a pulled port BBQ sandwich, and a mix of textures and flavors from dim sum.
